The ‘Australasian Inter-Service Incident Management System (AIIMS) is the primary tool for incident management used by wide and varied Government and non-government agencies and organisations. These include, but are not limited to: Western Australia Police (WAPOL); the Fire & Emergency Services Authority (FESA); Department of Water; Department of Environment and Conservation; and Burswood Entertainment Complex. AIIMS was adopted from international world best practice in Australia during the mid-eighties, its genesis being the American National Inter-agency Incident Management System. Since the introduction of AIIMS, the frequency and complexity of multi agency operations—both within and across State borders—have increased. This has placed greater emphasis on the need for a consistent, universally understood and applied system. AIIMS is a robust incident management system that enables the seamless integration of activities and resources of multiple agencies when applied to the resolution of any emergency situation or incident.
AIIMS will operate effectively for any type of incident, imminent or actual,
natural, industrial or civil, and the many other situations in which emergency
management organisations will be involved. Equally the system and the
principles upon which it is based can be applied to the management of non-emergency response situations such as major sporting and cultural events,
exhibitions and conferences.
AIIMS achieves this by providing a common management framework for organisations working in emergency management roles that assists the more effective and efficient control of incidents. The framework can be applied to any size incident as it provides the basis for an expanded response as an incident grows in size and complexity.
EIMS can provide your organisation with the two day Nationally Accredited AIIMS course or the 6 hour AIIMS awareness session. The two day course will assist your organisation to enhance your incident response and event management by improving your communication and cooperation internal and external to your organisation. This will be accomplished by using universal terminolgy, management structures and procedures.
